This is a gorgeous German tea set with lithographed and embossed images of red-and-black birds on gold backgrounds. Surrounding the birds is a beautiful black, red and gold embossed decorative design. The set is stunning--and is in close to perfect condition. I find this amazing, given that it is 108 years old!
There are two birds on the cups and teapot, all of whom are perched on the embossed design. A single bird in flight is on each saucer.
Included in the sale are six pieces: two cups, two saucers and teapot and lid (two pieces). The teapot is marked \"Germany\" to the left of the handle, at the base.
DIMENSIONS:Cups: 1 1/2\" tallSaucers: 2 3/4\" diameterTeapot and lid: 3 3/8\" tall (top of finial to base of pot) x 3 1/4\" wide (tip of spout to end of handle)
CONDITION:Cups: There are some very small areas of litho loss around the base of the cups. There is also some paint loss on the handles, and the interiors have oxidized.Saucers: There is only a little rim wear on the saucers.Teapot and lid: There are a few tiny specks of paint loss on the litho. There is oxidation on the interior, though parts of it are till shiny and silver. There is also a small dent just below the rim, to the left of the top of the handle. The other thing I need to point out is that there is solder on the pot, to the left of the spout. I don\'t know if this is original to the piece—i.e., that whoever attached the spout to the body didn\'t do a particularly great job—or if someone did this at a later date. Since I don\'t think the set was ever used, I have a feeling it\'s original.
