This oil Painting \'\'Wood Gatherer\'\' is by19th c.Dutch Master,HendrikBarendKoekkoek. The Koekkoek family of artists stretches from the 18th to the 20th century. HendrickBarendKoekkoek (1849 - 1909) was the youngest son of Hermanus Koekkoek (1815 -1882). This artist painted landscapes, specializing in woodland scenes. A theme that runs through his work is wood gathering.
The picture is signed with a monogram. The monogram is Lower Left, non-cursive\" h b k \" on the ice at the end of the pond, above the stump.
The painting is in good condition with slight cracking & minor in-painting that one would expect to see in a work of art of this age (see photos 7 & 8). Original Gold-Leaf frame. The Painting was professionally restored & relined in the early 80\'s, by a noted Boston area restorer who does work for major galleries including the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.When you look a the back of the painting, the small light areas were originally breaks in the canvas.These were expertly restored using a state-of-the art, vacuum wax re-ligning machine, using wax & mesh to strengthen the whole back of the painting and fill in all the small breaks & then in-painted. The bottom 1/3 of the monogram was one of these areas as you can see by the photos.
The painting was brought to Christie\'s Boston Office for appraisal in 1989 (see last two photos of documents). They deferred to Christies London, we brought it there when we moved to Ireland.The experts at Christies authenticated the work & the artist\'s monogram and appraised it for $6,000-8,000.
