Description

Highly decorated hinged silver box, Dutch made 19th century, c.1874, in the Georgian style. Beautiful form. Cartouche on front is free of monogram. Lovely patina. Interesting domed top. Likely a peppermint box, but could be a small snuff box or match case.

SIZE: About 1 3/4\" tall x 1 1/2\" wide and 1 1/8\" deep.

MARKS: On base: Right Facing Lion Passant 2 in hexagon (for silver fineness .833) and an additional mark \"R\" with two symbols (a \"1\" and a \"0\", I think) over it ~ not sure it a maker\'s mark or assay office mark (Gouda?). On inside front lip: Dutch date mark for 1874. Please see photos below.

CONDITION: Antique item over 140 years old. One very minor on bottom edge appears to be as made as it is closing a seam. Some old dried silver polish on interior lip. Inventory sticker inside base.
