His final rank was sargent I cannot make out the presenters because of the script not because it is rubbed Date is slightly rubbed but all is crisp . It is all in fine condition for 140 yrs old no wear an the handle other than a tiny ;tiny dent and a few scraches and slight hand wear .I always say that because someone will look with a magnifying glass .shaft is fine but discolord varnish on lower 60% of malacca shaft , with a promanent ridge down shaft as with all true malacca. springy and not weight bearing . ferrule is original two part brass and iron with a few dents in the brass but almost no wear to the iron. this cane was loved and not much used. Coin silver was made from melting silver coins ,before the U.S. found silver at the Comstock lode in 1870. These pieces are mostly unmarked ,as is this one .
