Wooden construction with screws, brass axles, and nails for the seal\'s eyes.
The string for connecting the pulleys underneath looks newer than the pull string. It works to turn the ball when the toy is pulled, but a little help is needed when the knot is coming around the back side of each pulley. If you run the toy by hand, rather than by simply pulling the pull string, the downward pressure of the hand is enough to make the knot go around without trouble.
I think the toy might have been home made (as in primitive), but I\'m not sure. The seal looks hand carved to me. The area above the rear axle pulley has been whittled and hollowed out some, no doubt to let the string\'s knot to come all the way through the area without getting hung up. I don\'t know how old the toy is. The paint is original and shows wear. There is a chip to one corner of the seal\'s tail and perhaps another on the nose as shown.
