For your consideration is this antique Civil War tintype photograph of a cavalry soldier holding his sword and having his pistol in a holster at his side. His buttons, buckle and cavalry insignia have been decorated in gold. The image is not identified and has a chunk of the tin chipped out right at his groin, there are also two large bends and creases that dont show unless you look in reflected light.The case is unique with an interesting design on the covers. I could not find this one listed in the Fixed In Time photograph case book, but maybe I just overlooked it.
It does have some splitting at the spine and some insect bites scattered over the case. The mat and preserver are fragile and starting to fall apart. Overall the image would grade just fair but displays extremely well. The case measures 4\" by 2.75\". A scarce image and case to add to any Civil War collection.I will have an incredible selection of antique photographs, militaria and Civil War items coming up for sale in the next few months.
