Notable features: A lovely piece with many pretty details. Made 1882-1891 at the Doulton Burslem pottery. Four fluted panels taper in to the neck and down at the base. The wide panels are blue & white florals that have a fabric or tapestry-texture. Here, the flowers are delicately lined in gold gilt. In between these panels are bold strokes of deep cobalt glaze, over painted with a black floral decoration. Very unusual.
The jar impressed mark: Doulton & Slaters Patent RdNo100290, and another impression diff. to read. Stamped under glaze: Doulton Burslem w crown & cog. Decorator marks in blue.
The silver plate lid and neck attachment were made by John Grinsell & Sons from Birmingham, UK. Mark dates this 1891-1907. The lid fits perfectly, not warped, is unmarked. The finial moves - is not a screw-type but appears soldered.
Condition: No chips or cracks. Crazing noticed on the bottom and inside. Some soiling or discoloration to tapestry areas may clean, but we will leave this to the buyer. Scattered, fine scratches to the plated silver.
