Antique EARLY HandPainted Portrait Brooch Russian or Slavic Royalty Intricate!

Description: This sale is for a truly stunningantique early 1800’s hand-painted oval brooch. I have acquired four of theselovely brooches; this one is especially beautiful and was hand-painted eitherin Russia or in the Slavic nations of the era. This is evident in the attireworn by the subject and her features, which are reminiscent of EasternEuropeans. According to the former owner, this was painted in either Russia or EasternEurope during the early 1800’s, and I tend to agree. The porcelain oval isencased in a yellow-gold finding. I believe it is brass, not karat gold. Thefinding is quite beautiful, with a ribbon-like design encircling the porcelain oval. The portrait itself is quite lovely; an almost-profile view of a rosy-cheekedbeautiful young woman wearing an unusual bonnet. She has deep brown eyebrows, hazel eyes and, to the artist’s credit, even darken circles under her eyes. Thebonnet appears to be beaded, with delicate bead strands trailing onto herbrunette hair. She wears a Wedgwood blue, fur-lined dress, with a russet-brownbodice trimmed with pearls and topped by lace. She also wears an uncommonthree-strand pearl necklace which appears to attach to her bonnet. At her décolletage, you can see just one side of a gold necklace. The artist has used a beautifultechnique to showcase the bonnet, beads, and pearls: Moriage-like fine stipplesof white paint. The reverse side of this fantastic brooch is white porcelain withan antique ‘c’ closure and the number ‘22’ impressed in the clay (the numbersare ornate – ‘old-fashioned’). This pin is in wonderful condition for its age(roughly 1800-1820), and would be a beautiful gift or an unusual addition to yourcollection!

ConditionReport: Very Good to Excellent; coulduse cleaning, and there is extremely slight paint loss to the background browncolor – little dots, and a line by her left shoulder. These do not take anything away from theenchanting 2-5/8 inches at thetallest; 2-1/4 inches at the widest; ½ inch deep.
