Vintage/antique Russian Eastern Orthodox or Eastern/Greek Catholic, or Ukrainian Catholic crucifix. Made from a brass-like copper-based alloy. The crucifix is scratched, but no visible cracks or other structural damage are present. Overall good vintage condition, mildly worn out likely due to devotional wearing by several generations of Christians. Could have been worn as a \"body\" Baptism (worn below all garments and underwear) pectoral cross. Exact age unknown, could have be an artifact from mid- to late 1800s.
The crucifix is two sided. The obverse of the crucifix bears an image of the Crucifixion, with the Corpus of Christ on a Latin- or Catholic style cross. Interestingly, the Byzantine three-bar cross characteristic of the Russian Orthodox and some Eastern Catholic churches, is not shown on this pendant. The four-letter \"INRI\" abreviation in Cyrillic letters is present as a nameplate in the top part of this crucifix. In addition, the crossbears the Sacred Name of Jesus Christ, as the \"IC XC\" Greek Christogram above the Christ\'s Arms.
The reverse of the crucifix bearsbears an image of the Resurrected Christ as the King in the top rounded end of the vertical crossbar. He is extending His Hands as for an embrace or a prayer.
On the left and right side ends of the horizontal crossbar, there are images of crossed Instruments of the Passion, such as the Cross and Saint Peter\'s Sword (left), and the whip and birches used for the scourging, or Flagellation of Christ.
In the lower part of the vertical crossbar, there is an image of Saint Barbara, also known in the Eastern Orthodox Churches as the \"Saint Great Martyr Varvara\". This name in abbreviated form is inscribed above the image of St. Barbara within the horizontal crossbar. St. Barbara is an early Christian saint venerated in the Catholic, Orthodox and Anglican Churches, with her feast day celebrated on December 4.
