Up for sale is an antique Ebonized Victorian side chair. The chair is well proportioned, and features elegant through tenons where the stiles pass through the legs on the back.The front legs curve gracefully into the seat and theback meets the seat and rear legs with an interesting, and likely strong, triangle brace. The finish shows a fair amount of age, and has alligatored considerably, although I believe it adds to its appeal for use as an accent chair. The seat cushion and fabric is in bad condition, and is not original. Interestingly, the fabric on the chair back looks to be original. It is a fabulous patterned fabric (silk?), that suggests this chair once graced the domicile of someone important. This chair has some similar features to one produced by Herter Brothers for the James Goodwin residence, as featured on page 175 of \"Herter Brothers Furniture and Interiors for a Gilded Age\". There are no markings on my chair to indicate that it was made by Herter Brothers.
