Wonderful old English oak coal hod/scuttle has beautiful hinges andhardwareand a delightful tin or brass embossed plaque of a lion.

The fireplace scuttle is great looking but has been repaired over the years. It is missing the original scoop/shovel and holder - the holes have been closed (wood putty?) and that area appears darker on the back - not by me. The side has had a wood repair on the rear foot - it looks well done - not by me. The handle escutcheons or backplates were damaged and have washers holding the pieces in place - it does not look out of place and is hard to detect (handle holds weight and is sturdy but I would not haphazardly hold the coal hod without additional support underneath - this repair I did years ago when I bought it and could not find these pieces anywhere). Like so many of these - there is no liner.

It measures 12\" wide, 10\" tall/ 15\" tall with handle and 15 1/2\" long/deep.

Displays nicely and works as small fire place storage for fat wood, matches, etc..
