At the time of the original listing, we are in the process of listing a large number of antique and vintage items purchased in England. These items are an eclectic mix including gold and sterling jewelry, and many unique, and in some cases, one of a kind items, in wood, brass, and iron, and other materials as well.

The information provided by the seller was that this was a 19th Century piece. He told me the information he received was that it was originally part of a wardrobe, with three such racks, with one mounted on the inner left, right, and rear walls of the wardrobe, respectively. My assumption is that based on the length this would have likely been one of the two side panels. In the photo of the back with holes and a band of glue residue or similar, that appears to support this attribution of the original form of the piece, but I do not have any other specific verification of this information.Re-purposing the rack from being mounted inside a wardrobe to a wall rack was accomplished with the addition of two contemporary brass mounting brackets on the back.

The rack is a beautiful piece with beautifully finished grain on the walnut panel, gracefully proportioned pegs, and heavy, solid, gleaming brass trim panels. It seems to me that the elegant,but simple lines of the piece suggest it might more likely Georgian than Victorian, but I do not know for sure.

Thewalnut panel is 16 1/8\" long x 2 7/8\" high x 1\" thick. Theheavy brass strips are each 3 1/4\" widex 1/8\" thick. The pegs are 3 1/4\" long, so the overall maximum projection from the call is 4 1/4\". The rack is a heavy, substantial piece and it weighs 1 3/4 pounds.

Condition

Thewall rack is in excellent condition.

I lightly polished the brass trim panels. There is still some variation in the patina that the buyer can opt to leave as is, or polish further.
