Antique Folk Art Wood Carved Eagle Head/Diamond Willow Cane/Great Old Patina:

This is a old Folk Art Carved Diamond Willow Folk Art Carved Waking Stick/Cane that has a great Eagle head for a handle.The handle and shaft are carved from one piece of wood and has the best patina.The end of the eagle beak has old red paint on the beak of the bird and has old brass tacks for eyes.Under the handle on either side of the shaft is etched into the shaft stems with leaves on them.There are 11 pods carved into the shaft of the cane and between the pods is carved a crescent moon and a six pointed star.Towards the bottom of the cane is a symmetrical carving that cane be seen in picture 10.The patina,old dirt and color is what only come from much age and gives it tremendous character.

The cane is 35\" tall,6\" across the top of the handle,and ends with a small 1 3/16\"worn brass ferrule.There is some minor age lines in the shaft of the wood from wood shrinkage as to be expected,but nothing that detracts.Some of the high spots on the pods are worn a bit butthat only adds to the charm of the piece.It was not carved yesterday.It was used but not abused.This is a very good looking antique..I would say late 1800\'s in making,eagle head walking stick.Great color and patina and nice looking eagle handle.It almost has a American Indian look to it,and would have been made out west.The old red paint on the beak is a added bonus.A very sturdy cane.

Many folks ask me if antique canes are OK to use.I do not believe that a antique cane should be used for support.When these were made it was more as a fashion statement and not a means of support.Everybody carried a cane in the days of old.Today,we have a obesity problem in this country,that was not the case back in the days of canes and walking sticks.They were treated as a rule the same way a Gucci bag is today..as a statement as to fashion.Please do not use a antique cane for a means of support.It may break.As a rule a Tiffany vase of old is not used for flowers today,but put in a case and admired for the artwork that it is.The antique cane should be treated in the same manner.
