Main Description

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique George III English sterling silver tea caddy made by John Emes; an addition to our Georgian silver teaware collection.

This exceptional antique Georgian sterling silver tea caddy has a square cushion shaped form onto a collet foot.

The body of the caddy is encompassed with bright cut engraved Greek key fret bands to the upper and lower portions.

The anterior surface of the box is ornamented with a bright cut engraved Greek Key bordered vacant cartouche, below a keyhole; the locking mechanism is not operational.

The upper rim and foot of the box is embellished with applied thread decoration.

This impressive antique tea caddy is fitted with a hallmarked domed, flush hinged cover embellished with further bright cut engraved fret bands, surmounted with an exceptional cast sterling silver finial.

This exceptional example of Georgian silverware was crafted by the very collectable and important London silversmith John Emes.

Condition

This antique Georgian tea caddy is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition in keeping with age.

The bright cut engraved decoration is very crisp.

There are natural firemarks to the surface of the piece, as to be expected in keeping with age.

Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the base and part hallmarks struck to the interior of the cover are very clear.
