Antique George VI Silver Egg Cup or Goblet, 1940, Robert Scott, Glasgow & London:
$28.73

This is a beautiful George VI, solid silver Egg Cup or Drinking Goblet.
The cup is beautifully chased all around with a geometric pattern and there is a chased, vacant, shield cartouche surrounded what look like olive branches.
The hallmark is very clear, showing the Leopard for London, the date letter E for 1940, and the maker\'s mark RS. This looks like the I am not entirely certain, but I think this is the mark for Robert Scott, who was a retail silversmith based at 8, Buchanan Street, Glasgow, but whose work I have seen with London and Sheffield assay marks.
The building which Robert Scott occupied is now regarded as the gateway to Glasgow\'s \'Style Mile\', and you can currently rent a two bedroom flat above the former jeweller\'s for £ 1650 per month!!
The cup is in excellent condition, with no signs of any damage, and the hallmarks are very clear.
The cup weighs 48 g and is 97 mm tall.
All in all, a very lovely silver cup which displays beautifully.
