Georgian Patch Box
A wonderful example of an antique, Georgian, Bilston enamel patch box. Beautifully inscribed on the lid \'Love virtuous Love my dearest Maid By me shall never be Betrayed\', in a frame of red and blue. Some chips to the enamel, I am not sure if someone has tried to restore the script at some point as some of the letters are continued even in the chipped patches. For the age of the item, it\'s certainly doing very well! Pale blue pot base and white interior. Some minor crazing to the porcelain inside, and a fair amount of tarnishing to the metal, as expected. There is significant damage to the mirror inside, lots of black pitting marks that are particularly severe around the edge and decrease in size towards the middle. The hinge is a little rusty and stiff, but the box opens and closes fine apart from that, and also clips shut properly. A really lovely and interesting historical item that is in great condition for it\'s age.Measures approximately 42 mm x 37 mm x 25 mm.
