This antique 18th Century piece of Georgian silver, is hallmarked as being created in London, England circa 1798 of solid sterling silver. This large serving / stuffing / basting spoon is in very good condition with one minuscule dent on the bowl and only minor surface wear and abrasions, the worst of these on the back of the stem, is captured in the last close-up. All of these marks are normal for this type of utensil. Hallmarked and has the maker\'s mark of William Eley & William Fearn, it measures 12\" long, the bowl measures 2 1/4\" wide, the end of the handle measures 1 1/4\" wide, and it weighs 5.18 oz. It has a hand chased scene depicted on the handle, featuring an English hunting dog, either a Pointer or an English Setter, standing in the grass among flowers and mushrooms. The back of the handle has the following hallmarks: the Lion Passant for STERLING purity; the Lion\'s head wearing a crown for the London assay office; a capital \"C\" date representing the year 1798: and W E over W F for makers Willim Eley and William Fearn. Eley and Fearn partnered in 1797 and registered their mark that year. Lastly it contains the King George profile mark which was a tax / duty markused during the period of 1786-1821.
