An antique solid silver vinaigrette with a wonderful gilded grill and its original sponge. The very slightly domed box is decorated with a wavy engine-turned pattern, applied cast floral rims and reeded sides. The grill is beautiful with its lovely pierced and engraved floral pattern, clearly hand-crafted. All three major components are marked – lower and upper parts of the box and the grill. The grill was pierced after being assayed, so all that is left is its lion passant, just about visible, having been truncated by a fret saw. It has its original sponge, which is always nice when found in-situ. Altogether, a beautiful piece for the collector.My pictures below show this piece in detail. Monogram/Crest: Scripted contemporary letter ‘B’. Dimensions & Weight: Measures 3.2 cm x 2.5 cm x 1 cm and weighs 16 gms. Silver Fineness: Sterling. Condition: Very Fine and as near pristine as you are likely to find for a vinaigrette made nearly 200 years ago. As a guide, I use the term ‘Very Fine’ when condition is as good as, or better, than might be expected for an item of its age. Where condition is less than might be expected, I use the term ‘Fine’. Condition is subjective, so please see my pictures and use your own judgement! Please remember all items have been pre-owned and used. They will therefore show signs of this use, particularly if antique.
