Art Nouveau Silver Plated WMF Casket / Money Box

Stylish silver plated casket made by WMF in the early part of the 20th century.

The base of the box is 7 cm wide by 4.9cm. At the lid ittapers down to 6.5 cm by 4.4 cm. It is 4.4 cm tall.

Super Art Nouveau motif to the lid. (pictured). Aband of four lines runs around all four sidesof thebox set with a floral motif in the centre of each panel.

The box has a folding hasp and came with a small padlock also pictured (no key) not sure if the padlockis original to the box.

The hinge is in excellent order and the lid has a tight fit.

To the back of the box is a 4 cm slot 3 mm deep, Internally, just behind the slot,is a metalclip fitted with apiece ofleather type material. Was it designed as a money box? Not sure what the purpose of this so any information appreciated.

The base has WMF factory marks dating the box to circa 1910 and the I/O mark denoting standard plate thickness.

There is some light wear to the plated finish and the odd mark but the box is in good order.
