a very rare german sewing etui with Stobwasser paper mache lacquer painting top
the sewing tools made from silver, not hallmarked, but tested genuine silver
only the thimble has a 800 hallmark for germany real silver, I think the thimble is not originally belonging to this set, must be later around 1880-1890
the scissors with swan decorations are a bit larger than their compartment, they surely are around 1810-1820
all the tools are in very good condition, specially the gentleman needle case shows no wear or damages
the mother of pearl thread winder has no cracks
the top of the box is apart from the rest because the leather binding dried out and broke, needs to be rebound
the painting is not damaged only a bit dirty and shows some light craquelée, we did not clean or polish it, this is the original as found condition
small parts of the embossed paper missing

Stobwasser manufacture in Braunschweig is famous for their paper mache lacquer painted tins and boxes
coming directly out of a rich estate in Hamburg, Germany
inside are two old papers saying the box was a gift to a woman named Elisabeth Althaus by her husband in the year 1818, and says that the picture was made by Stobwasser
measures approx. 13,2 x 9,3 x 3 cm (5.19 x 3.66 x 1.18 inches), total weight is 174,5 g
