Body(Elephant)is extremely thick and heavy ,shiny and silver inlay in excellent condition.Lamp stick and cluster has been restored. Museum Level Mameluke Revival item Rare trio Chandelier.Authentic Antique turn of the 19th Century Elephant lamp made in Damascus work Technique with detailed silver inlaid ornamentation on Thick cast brass Elephant and copper pressed upper lampshades. Both Base and Elephant are decorated traditionally with floral and calligraphic Islamic letters and motives made in thick silver inlay.Lampshades also with floral silver inlay ornamentation.
In the 19th and early 20th Century, when such items where made, was a time of revival of the old Mameluke style. Metal smiths and artists worked to resurrect the Mameluke style. Both in Europe and among the Muslims grew an interest in such craftsmanship. The craftsmen inlaid softer metals such as silver and gold ,into harder metals commonly copper and Brass but also into coarser metals. Such metal works items exemplify the Mameluke revival period, taking ordinary metal and inlaying it to create an impressive and high-status item. Such objects as the elephant lamp are extremely rare and where so wanted and praised for it\'s rarity and making quality.
Such item due to it\'s rarity and levle of making can well be a museum piece.
The Elephant is finely done with a good positive \"elephanty\" presence,it has a friendly feeling to it while standing firm on it\'s base.

Size :
Height: approx 36.5 cm (14 3/8 inch).
Total Weight : 3041 grams (over 3 kg ) - 6 lb & 11 oz (almost 7 pounds).Lamp has been restored and cleaned recently and looks very nice with a good goldish brass shine and silver inlay is in very good condition - thick and glamorous.
Electrical system rewired so lamp stick was opened and remolded (thick ,gold painted, part in connection of tubes). Most other electrical parts are the original (or at least very old). So lamp looks and functions as it was originally designed. Certain Screw-able parts of the lampshades are not completely tight locked to prevent pressure on mechanical connections.
IMPORTANT /SAFETY / Electrical circuit / 110 Volts users :
Lamps is wired for a 220Volt electrical house hold (as common in Europe).
Lamp bolbs that will be given are large thread 10 WATTS each.
Due to wiring thickness limitation it is not recommended to use more than 25 Watts bolbs (3x25watts=75Watts Max total).
In any case long periods (over 1 hour) of use of lamp is not recommended.
For 110volt household system (as common in the US) it is required to use a 110v>220v transformer (an adapter is not enough , rewiring to 110v wires is not recommended and in the tube part it will probalby not be possible due to wire thickness).
If you are not sure with any electrical issues please consult with an electrician or bring lamp to your local hardware store.
Crucial for safety and functionality parts have been changed.However system is basically the same as was originally made and therefore does not comply with any modern safety standards and the use of this antique as a working lamp is solely on the responsibility of the buyer/user.
