This beautiful antique John Gould & W. Hart print, is a framed lithograph depicting a pair of \"Chroicocephalus Philadelphia\", known as Bonaparte\'s Gulls. Thisshore bird / sea gulllithograph is in very good condition with no tears or holes. The gold painted wood frame and gold painted inner wood frame (inside of mat) are in very good condition also, as is the soft green matting. The frame is 26 1/4\" by 21 1/4\". The reveal is 18 3/4\" by 13 1/4\". The print measures 21 1/2\" by 14 1/2\".Originally published between 1862 - 1873 by Gould in his portfolio \"Birds Of Great Britain\", this hand colored lithograph is beautifully and artistically executed.
John Gould was a self-taught English naturalist, a gifted artist, and a talented taxidermist, as Gould was made a taxidermist for the Zoological Society of London in 1827. He published more than forty folio volumes of ornithological illustrations, these works containing over 3,000 lithographic plates. His first work was printed in 1831 and his last was produced in 1888.
