About the painter:Maurycy Apfelbaum(also Appelbaum, born 1887 in Mszczonow - died 3 January 1931 in Katowice) - Polish painter of Jewish origin. He was a member of Jung Idysz Association.
At the age of 15 he worked in Kalisz as a signboard painter and fabric designer. He studied painting in Warsaw, Vienna and in Germany, the Netherlands and the UK. He was the chief author of Jewish scenes and decorations at the Great Synagogue in Będzin [1] and Lowicz. He also worked as a decorator at the Jewish Theater in Warsaw. He was in Kazimierz Dolny [2], where in his Summer Gallery in 2007 his works were exhibited among other works of Jewish painters. One of his paintings - \"At the Market\" - is at a permanent exhibition in a collection of rural paintings at the District Museum in Leszno, in the former Great Synagogue.
