This is an exceptional Limoges porcelain demitasse made around 1900. This cup and saucer is delicate, snow white with gold trim. The top of the cup and outside edge of the saucer are trimmed in an incised gold border design. This antique demitasse is in pristine, like-new, condition. No chips or cracks. The gold gilding is perfect which is exceptionally rare for a gilded item this old. Both are clearly marked on the bottom by William Guerin & Co. The saucer mark includes mention of the Ovington Brothers department store.
This demitasse was made by William Guerin & Co. of Limoges, France expressly for the Ovington Bros. retail store in New York City. Ovingtons commissioned and imported only the finest and highest quality European glassware and porcelains. The founding brothers,Theodor and Edward S. Ovington, both died in 1909 just two months apart from each other. The store continued to do business under the shortened name of \'Ovingtons\'. William Guerin & Company continued to produce the highest quality porcelain available until the mid 1930\'s.
