Description

Of oval form with removable top lid. Cloisonne enamel work on copper of Asian origin; I believe it to be Japanese (rather than Chinese) Meiji Period (1868-1912). The border has a band of tiny dots/circles in a dark brick color (typically Japanese). Also, the base is metal without enamel applied which is typical of Japanese cloisonne before 1900. There are areas of the enamel work that glisten, like gold flakes in the enamel. Interior is turquoise color. I am not an expert in Asian antiques. Please scan down to see the close up photos below as they are a material part of the description and judge age and origin for yourself.

SIZE: About 2 1/2\" x 1 5/8\" and 1 1/8\" tall.

MARKS: Unmarked. There are a few faint numbers written on the base (possibly 1886), but I do not think they are original to the box.

CONDITION: Antique item, There is a small loss to the cloisonne on the top lid on the left side edge. Also, with magnification, I can see some minuscule pitting spots. Wear to the interior and base.
