Rare Antique Original Art Deco 1920s Gwenda Foil Butterfly Wing Compact

Absolutely stunning example of a Gwenda Foil Compact - made in the 1920s at the height of the Art Deco era in England.The button at the front flips open the lid and there is a mirror on the underside of the lid and the original powder puff and sifter inside. It is marked Gwenda, made in England and it is in excellent condition with no loss of enamel and no damage to the celluloid.

It comes boxed and with a simple felt slip pouch.

The compact measures 80mm (3.25\") by 45mm (1.75\").

Looks like it is never being used for its intended purpose, powder puff looks unused to me, please see photo.

The photos do not do this piece justice as the illustration. I believe the front of the compact blue sky backdrop to the landscape scene is made from real Morpho butterfly wings, typical of the trend set by Thomas L Mott during this time. Thesewings provide the exquisite iridescent on the front of the piece.

As you can see from the pics, the item is in excellent vintage condition with only minor scratches on the back and light marks on powder puff.The slim chromed polished steel edging is in great order.
