Antique Papier Mache Chinoiserie Tea Caddy / Sewing Box / etc … a lidded hand decorated Jar. Most likely mid-late *19th Century (*1801–1900). My guess is Victorian.

Gilded signature at the base, possibly \"Larpent\"?

Condition is Very Good. There are some paint chips, losses, peeling, overall crazing, scratches and minor edge wear. Lid paint is fading, but still lovely. Stands est 4.5” high, and 4.5” across at widest point (the lid). Considering the age & delicacy, this is truly a great find!

Love this style – many times, you could find ornate decorated pieces using mother of pearl, pewter & more in addition to the hand decorated paint.

FYIO: Chinoiserie: the imitation or evocation of Chinese motifs and techniques in Western art, furniture, and architecture, especially in the 18th century.
