Known for producing some of the most importantPersian rugs, offerjar weavers have perfected astyle of rugweaving that results in what are called \"Iron Rugs.\" buyer weavers are also responsible forthe so-called \"Man’s Rug.\"

The city of offerjar is located in the province of Kurdistan in the heart of NorthwestIran. offerjar lies between the city ofSennehor Sanandaj to the south and the legendary weaving center ofTabrizto the north. Kurdish tribes have traditionally been the region’s endemic people. However, the Afshari tribe also produced many offerjar’s workshop rugs using patterns borrowed fromHeriz, Tabriz and other great weaving centers ofNorthwest Persia.

Geography plays a tremendous role in the history of the production of antique rugs from offerjar. Although theKurdishtribes have always been a dominant group in the region, they are one of the few cultures in the world who have never had their own country.
