Antique Russian 91 Silver Filigree Trinket Box Moscow 1859

This hinged box is a beautiful antique representation of the outstanding workmanship of Russian silversmiths supported by four filigree ball feet with a lock closure.

Size: about 2 1/2\" W x 2\" D x 2\" Tall

Weight: about 83 gram (2.9 ounces)

Maker\'s mark is VP (BП cyrillic) for Vasiliy (Ivanovich) Popov (active 1816-1868, ref. Postnikova-Losseva, p. 212, #2334).

Assayer\'s mark is IA (ИA cyrillic) for Ivan (Vasilyevich) Avdeev (active 1852-1862, Moscow, ref. Postnikova-Losseva, p. 205, #2110).

Date is 1859 and town\'s mark is Moscow (St. George slaying the Dragon 1741-1898). Silver Standard mark is 91 for export to Western Europe (1847-1899, ref. Postnikova-Losseva, p. 148, #23).

This box is in an excellent condition. It has an original patina and displays splendidly. The hinge on the front closes and opens easily. The coils that wrap around the hinges on the front and back are intact and tight. The four front feet and are sturdy and complete. The 4 top decorations are complete. Certainly a beautiful work of art in a rare perfect condition.
