Offered here for your consideration is arare antique pressed glass model of a sphinx by Saint Louis - the premiere French 19th and 20th century glass house. Purportedly, Saint Louis exhibited a similar sphinx model the 1876 World\'s Fair Centennial Exhibition. A limited number of these were then manufactured for a brief period of time in a few size and color variations. This is one of the smaller desk-size versions in frosted glass. Simply a fantastic paperweight from the height of the Egyptian Revival.It dates to circa 1870.

It is in overall good, as-pictured used estate condition witha small chip andinternal concussion with a small hairline at the tip of the sphinx\'s platform, some tiny spots of fritting at the edges, some very fine and light surface scratches here and there,and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age.
