Here is a very fine Native antique. It is a Santee Sioux smokedmoose hide coat emblazoned with stunning beadwork . I was told by a fairly expert collector that the spreading horizontal fantasy floral motif was classic Santee. This beading is visually delicious on the old smoked moose hide. It is brain tanned and has a wonderful distressed and chafed texture that has an amazing age patina. I\'m not sure if some want me to list the texture of the hide as somewhat damaged but I would make no apologies for it as it glows with historic patina.It appears to be early 1900s perhaps 1930s when fine frontier artisans still plied their craft. Probably the bakelite? celluloid buttons ? could provide a date range if proven original to the coat. Note how thesebuttons are lashed on with thin thongs-nice.In any case this handsome antique looks traditional and historic! A few of it\'s features..... are thick cut fringe on sleeves and around the torso. It has faux pocket flaps down low but no pockets. There is a button closure for each cuff and the cuffs have the only interior lining. Two small holes on each sleeve may be shots from the original hunt. The coat has sleeved button holes that hide the buttonsfrom view when buttoned. in general it seems well worn but well loved and well kept. Some may wish to collect this for a beadwork display others would like to wear it. It is tough stuff and quite sturdy. I deem it to be about a ( custom tailored ) mens large.Please note the following measurement specifics as I don\'t invite returns and offer this \"As is\". I don\'t think anybody over 5\' 11\" and a waist 34 will enjoy the fit. There is ample sleeve lengthwhich can be bunched on shorter arms. Naturally a primitive garment like this could be modified if one wished. Please inspect the photos showing all sides of the piece.
