Antique Towle Georgian Fork Sterling Silver c. 1898 CHICAGO & MonogrammedUp for sale is Older Towle Silversmiths \'Georgian\' Fork. The fork is decorated on both sides of the dining tool. On the front: the sterling silver fork handle is an Ionic Greek column with a fancy woven basket full of roses with a garland of roses that drapes down and around below the ionic column scrolls. There is a pierced space between the rose garland and the column below the scrolls. The column gradually narrows toward the tines - decorated with a rose arrangement halfway down - transforming into a clawed foot when it meets the tines. On the rear: the fork column is decorated with roses and a heart-shaped shell and with leaves draping down from the scroll centers decorated with posies. The reverse of the fork tines is heavily decorated with a basket of roses with roses and posies draping down 2 of the 4 fork tines . The basket is held by a clawed foot. Late 19th Century (c. 1898). Maker: Towle Silversmiths, Newburyport, Massachusetts.Pattern: GeorgianMarks: Lion standing within a scripted letter T (for Towle Silversmiths); Sterling within a cartouche; and, Pat. 1898 within a cartouche.Measurements: Four measure 6 1/8 inches long , and weighs is app 43 grams of sterling silver.Monogram: Engraved \" CHICAGO on tine.
