Thisbeautiful figural piece is in the form of an acorn and was made in atechnique called stickware. It wasmade in Royal Tunbridge Wells in the county of Kent,England in the mid-lateVictorian era. The curved geometric pattern of the top is made ofpieces ofdifferent colored woods that were glued together before the shape ofthe acorn cap was carved. The bottom is carved from a beautifully multicolored piece of lignum vitae. Oneof similar shapeis shown on p. 99 of Gay Ann Rogers\'book An Illustrated History of Needlework Tools.

It\'sinexcellent condition with no missing marquetry, chips or cracks and itscrews together perfectly. Itmeasures 2\" long and is 7/8\" in diameter at the opening. Inside isan English sterling silver thimble that\'s a nice fit. The plain lowerband is stamped with the English silver hallmarks for Chester 1894 andthe maker\'s mark for Henry Williamson, Ltd. It has a waffled upper bandand all over daisy knurling. It is also in great condition with noholes,dents, repairs or other damage. It\'s about an American size 7/8 (14.7mm diameter opening).
