This is a beautiful antique Victorian circa 1882 sterling silver Scottish agate bracelet.( NOT A BROOCH ). PLEASE NOTE: The bracelet has had some work done to it especially around the clasp area where one of the agates has been cut down to allow the clasp to be completed.
I have collected agates in Scotland for over 20 years and know where most of the lovely gemstones that Victorians used for their classic jewellery were found.
The stones are lovely carnelian agates from near Cupar in Fife, brown and white banded agates from Scurdie Ness, grey agate from Montrose and a fabulous section of green and white moss agate from Balmerino in north Fife.
The bracelet has no hallmarks which is fairly normal for pieces of this period, but has been fully tested by a local jeweller and is sterling silver. The bracelet is approx. 17.5 cm ( Just under seven inches ) in length with width 2.5 cm ( One inch ) and the clasp is in good working condition and holds the bracelet well against the wrist.
