Antique Victorian Hand Carved Cowry Shell Cameo carved in 3 layers . The top orange layer is carved to highlight her hair followed by the woman\'s face and bodice using the white layer of the shell, followed by the the bottom pale translucent orange and cream colored base. The cameo is affixed to a faux tortoise shell mount. There is cracking to the tortoise mount in several places- between 3:00 and 5:00 on the front and at several places on the reverse- but it is sturdy from some type of clear adhesive that was used at some point in the past. There is an1880\'s metal style bale and pin- allowing the piece to be worn as either a pendant or brooch. Cameo measures 2\" x 1 1/2\". In spite of the cracking to the faux tortoise mount, the piece is truly beautiful and an interesting antique cameo to wear and enjoy as part of your collection!!
