Antique Victorian Pair of Sterling Silver Candlesticks by Walter Latham & Son:

A fine and impressive pair of antique Victorian English sterling silver candlesticks; an addition to our ornamental silverware collection

The circular urn style capitals are embellished with ribbon and festoons to the upper portion and encircled with simplified single leaves to the lower portion.

The original hallmarked detachable sconces are encircled with bands of bead decoration to the rim.

Each panel of the tapering column is ornamented with ram’s head decoration accented with suspended swag, ribbon and festoon decoration.

The knop to the upper portion of the column is embellished with a floral motif amidst vertical pales.

The square foot is embellished with two further bands of simplified leaf designs.

The base is embellished with four urn designs, each with fluted decoration and rams head handles in addition to an impressive large leaf motif to each corner and bead decorated border to the rim.

Both Victorian candlesticks have weighted bases, as to be expected, and are fitted with green baize to the underside.

Condition

These Victorian candlesticks are a very good gauge of silver, fine quality and in excellent presentation condition.

The decoration to each candlestick is very sharp.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of each base show signs of wear in keeping with age, but remain legible.

The part hallmarks to each sconce sleeve are very clear.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of these examples of Victorian 30.6cm/12\"
