Antique Victorian Taxidermy Turtle Sm. Inset Brass Bowl Cigar Ashtray Very Rare:

This is an extremely rare antique Victorian taxidermy turtle with an inset brass ashtray and a cigar rest inserted into the back of the turtle. The cigar holder swivels and is not bent at all; the brass inset is also in perfect condition. Mr. turtle\'s eyes are both glass, and he is over 125 years old. There is, I believe, the original shellac, or other appropriate finishing material for the time, in nigh perfect condition.

Overall, he is in truly outstanding condition. Please look at the pictures carefully to make your own determinations. But there have been no repairs, no toes glued back on, no leg repairs, nothing; maybe two toes are a little short, I cannot tell for sure, but as condition goes you cannot find one in better condition, all original, no repairs, no scratches, no dents, but see for yourself. In addition, there may be 1/16 inch or so missing from the tail but, again, I cannot tell. And please note the beautiful old patina; a beautiful and original color.

He is about 5 1/4 inches long, head to tail, about 3 3/4 inches at the widest, and 2 3/4 inches tall.

This is a wonderful collector\'s piece, both for those who collect taxidermy, antique taxidermy, and tobacciano, or smoking related items, cigars in particular. This is a great piece both for rarity and for condition.

The Turtle Tails are extremely fragile - this one isintact

however it seems to have a \"bite\" out of it.

I have never been sure what these were used for.Some

of them have holes in the shell - which I have alwaysassumed

were for a handle of some type - But I have neveractually seen one

with a Handle.

This one does not have holes in the shell.
