This is a beautiful antique Victorian circa 1890 sterling silver Scottish Skye scenic marble brooch.The marble found on the Isle of Skye comes in many different colours and the scenic variety in particular was most sought after by the Victorian lapidarists.
I have collected agates in Scotland for over 20 years and know where most of the lovely gemstones that Victorians used for their classic jewellery were found.
The stunning stone is a classic scenic marble from the Isle of Skye on the west coast. The scene is a rolling moutain scape with shafts of sunlight!The brooch has a nice sterling silver frame which is not hallmarked and this is fairly normal for pieces from this period, but has been fully tested however and is sterling silver. The length is 4.5 cm ( One anf four fifth inches ) and the pin and C clasp are in good working condition and original.
