This is an antique violet ray quack medical device. It is the ENERGEX model and comes with 5 probes (4 glass, 1 metal). The design is similar to a HV Tesla coil.
It used to work perfectly until I attempted to refurbish it! DOH! I used it to test my Crookes tubes and Geissler tubes. The glass probes glowed purple just fine, so I know those work.The rubber cord was cracked and I wanted to replace it with something that was safer to use. So, I soldered in a brand new electrical cord. When I put everything back together, it stopped working. I am not sure why? I suspect that it could be the spark gap adjustment in the base? I don\'t have a schematic for this, but it seems like a pretty simple circuit consisting of two resonant coils, a capacitor, and a spark gap for tuning.
Other imperfections: The wax coil is cracked, but that never affected the operation of it. The metal probe socket that goes in the tip is separated from the nut that held it in place. The metal probe plug on the glass pancake shaped probe is disconnected from the wire. And, the spark gap tuning nut seems to slip.
The carrying case seems to be in fair condition with the original backdrop cloth and logo. The hinges work fine, and the handle is good.
Consider the unit as-is for parts or repair. Hopefully you can get this working again, since it is such a strange device from a long time ago!
