We are not expert by any means, but we believe this cast iron and tin/steel scale was made in the 1800s. The scale, on the base, says FUERZA 3 KILOG. Likely, it is from the Civil War Era. I believe it is original red paint. It functions - as in the scale does move with up and down. The copper/brass plates have some dings as pictured, they measure approx. 7 1/2\" round. The scales measure approx. 17\" with plates, the base alone is 13\". Scales with put trays holder to holder are approx. 17\". Please view pictures for they are part of decription.
