Here is the sweetest little antique piece to add to your putz village—a miniature German composition Christmas decoration in the form of two little birds on a snowy fence! The bottom of this tiny treasure is stamped GERMANY US ZONE, which dates it from roughly 1945 to 1949, when the allies occupied the region after the Second World War.

This whimsical holiday bauble has an unusual ‘nodder’ feature, in that the two little robin redbreast birds are mounted on tiny springs that wiggle. The birds are made from a composition material, and the fence feels like twisted paper. A cardboard disk forms the base, and the surrounding ground and fence are given a liberal dose of glitter snow. This is the perfect little accessory to display with your antique snowbabies! Mine aren’t unpacked yet, so I have shown the little birds with some small antique bisque dolls (not included) for your size reference. The putz birds on a fence measure just 2 1/2” tall. Super cute!
