Up for sale is a beautiful Pre-Civil War Waltham model 1857 pocket watch made in November, 1859. The 18 size, P.S. Bartlett grade, gold gilt, full plate movement has 11 Jewels, a steel balance and is key wound from the back and key set from the front. The watch comes with a key. The movement\'s serial number is 25735.The watch is in running condition. I set it, wound it and let it run on my desk for about 12 hours; over which time it ran about 2-3 minutes slow. I did notice that the watch would stop and start again by itself, this only happened a couple of times in the hour or two that I sat at the desk, but the watch was still running the next morning. I don\'t have the service records for this watch. This watch should probably be serviced if it is used.The Appleton Tracy signed dial appears to be original and is in very nice condition with two extremely faint hairlines between the 12 and 1 hour marks.The hands are blue steel \"spades\" and appear to be original.The crystal is clear with two tiny pin-point blemishes (must have watch tilted just right in the light to see).The coin silver hunting case has a few minor dings and shows age appropriate wear for a watch that is 155 years old. The case is likely not original, but correct. The lift spring is broken, so when the button on the stem is pressed the front cover does not spring open. There is a little play in the front cover hinge and the front cover opens to greater than 90 degrees. The other two hinges are in good shape and all covers close properly.
