This is an antique 1/2L Silver or possibly Gold Plated Pewter Lidded Beer Stein fromthe Louisiana Exposition of 1904 or \"World\'s Fair\" of 1904 held in St. Louis, MO. The stein is a beautiful detailed example with relief pictures of various buildings on the lid and the body of the stein itself. It has a fancy handle and thumb lift.
The body of the steinfeaturing swirling decoration around each of the three panels. The central panel depicts and is captioned as \"Palace of Liberal Arts\". The left panel depicts and is captioned as \"Palace of Electricity\". The right panel depicts and is captioned as \"Palace of Varied Industries\" and the lid depicts the \"United States Government Building.\"
The stein measures 7 1/2\" tall to the top of the thumb lift and is in very good overall condition. Thestein appears to have a gold finish and not silver, so this may be gold-plated and not silver-plated, but I am unsure of this. There is also a darkened area in the top smooth band on the right side, which appears to either be wear of the plating or simply tarnish that needs to be polished, I am unsure. The stein is very shiny overall and has a gold tint.
The bottom of the stein has aseal which says in the center \"Made in Germany\" and around the seal it says Hess and Culbertson Jewelers Corner of 6th & Locust Str. St. Louis.Thereisalso a number scratched into the bottom, which may have been an oldaccessionnumber \"Wh5-185334\".
