Herefor your consideration is an exquisite and rare, contemporary, sterling silverand gilt, fully hallmarked, limited edition goblet, with the stem in the formof a winged phoenix on a pedestal stamped ‘resurgam’ latin for ‘I shall rise again’ with tapering turnedconcertinaedbody, intricately engraved decoration, ribbed & rolledfluted foot, and beautiful gilt interior.

This Aurum St Paul’s Cathedral goblet was made by order ofthe Dean and Chapter of St Paul\'s to commemorate \"The 300th Anniversary Of The Laying Of The Foundation Stone Of The Cathedral In 1675”. A numbered limited editiongoblet 509 of 600, fully hallmarked with leopardshead for the London assay office, lion passant, gothic date letter ‘A\' for 1975, makers stamp Aurum, and the designers initials JB for Jocelyn Burton.

Consideringthe age of this exquisite goblet, its in exceptionally goodcondition withno damage, repairs, dents or splits. It does have some beautiful silver andgilt patination, commensurate with its 41 years of age.

Jocelyn Burton ...

Jocelyn Burton was born in Walesin 1946. She trained as asilversmithatSir John CassCollege inLondonwhere she studied under Jack Stapley. In 1967 she won theDe BeersInternational Award for the design of diamond jewellery. Three years later she set up her own studio and workshop in London. In 2003, she received theCity and Guilds of London InstituteGold Medal - Prince Philip Medal.

Jocelyn Burton\'s commissions to name but a few includean offertory salver forLichfield Cathedraland a centerpiece commissioned bySir Roy Strongto launch the Modern Plate collection of theVictoria and Albert Museum (whereit\'s on permanent exhibition). Recently she has completed a set of magnificent silver wall sconces for a City financial institution and thePataudi Trophy, a prize commissioned by theMCCto commemorate the 75th anniversary of India\'s Test debut, presented when theIndiatoured the UK in 2007. TheMCCloaned the trophy to be exhibited in November and December 2012 at Jocelyn Burton’sBentley & SkinnerExhibition.

Her work features in private and public collections including,10 Downing Street, York Minster,Longleat, St Paul’s Cathedraland theFitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge.

Apart from major commissions Jocelyn Burtonhas created a range of domestic silver as well as jewelery using gold, silver, precious and semi-precious stones. All this work is based on her own designs – from preliminary sketches to finished colour drawings.

In 1995 Jocelyn Burton won the United Kingdom Jeweller Award for best design in silver. Jocelyn Burton alsohad the first piece of platinum hallmarked at the LondonAssay Officein 1973 when hallmarking for platinum was introduced under theHallmarking Act of 1973.This piece is atGoldsmith’s Hall. She became a freeman of theWorshipful Company of Goldsmithsin 1974.
