Up for offer is this very rare and stunning bronze signed by Franz Bergman (Bergmann) with the \"B\" in a vase along with \"Geschutz\" inscribed in bottom. This word being on item shows it’s age as this was used on items which meant a patent was applied for or it was a copyrighted piece. It’s age is most likely around 1900 to 1920. It portrays two frogs paddling while sitting on a leaf. Each frog has initials \"FH\" inscribed on bottom of foot which is the artist’s own initials. The piece Measures 4 inches long by 3 1/2 inches wide from end to end of paddles and stands 1 1/4 to top of frogs head and 1 3/4 to top of paddle. These old Bergman’s are rarely found with there original cold paint still intact and this piece is mint!!!

This is an original foundry piece from around 1900 and not a reproduction nor a later piece made in their newer foundry. It is rare and yet to see another like this. More photos available if requested. Please research the artist and you will not find another like this. A great investment too. I am forced to sell much of my collection unfortunately and listed the piece at a 1/3 its value.

History of Franz Xavier Bergmann (1861-1936)

Franz Xavier Bergmann was the son of a bronze caster with the same name who had a small bronze foundry in Vienna. Bergmann inherited the foundry of his father and reopened it in 1900. Many of the designs however, stem from the old sketch books of his father. The foundry was especially famous for its very naturalistic cold painted animal bronzes. Cold painted bronzes differ to fire glazed ones as the glaze can be applied in more layers. The knowledge on how to cold glaze is lost, which makes the Bergmann bronzes especially valuable.
