A fine old authentic Inuit Eskimo stone carving depicting a woman with a child in her parka hood. She is carrying a bucket, the carving originates from the Port Harrison Sugluk community of Canada\'s arctic North and dates from the mid 1900\'s. Carved from a deep dark green stone with natural striations. I really like how the artist has given the depiction of movement to the piece with figure in a leaning stance that gives us the feeling of the struggle the subject matter was experiencing in their everyday existence. The carving measures 3 3/4\" tall x 3 1/8\" wide , the bucket is fastened with sinew cordage. The sculpture is good condition with a small chip noted to the one foot, the carving is unsigned as was typical of its early date.The carving stands firmly unsupported .This fine sculpture will make a great display item and a fine addition to anyone\'s collection.
