Egyptian Wood Sarcophagus Bust Late Period circa 715 to 30 BC.

Size 33-1/4 inches (84.5 cm) Length. Ex Old German Collection, acquired at sale house Peretz in Saarbrücken in the 1980s. Carved cedar panel boards with separately attached mask and wig lappets. The voluminous carved face with nice details. Remains of red and black painted pigment. Design motifs present consist of a winged heart scarab across chest and below collar, a recumbent Anubis jackal; both for protection to the underworld. Overall remains of dowel pins for attachment. Areas of paint loss and some surface erosion, ancient corner loss on the right front, lower edge. An impressive example.
