FONTAINE FOX, American cartoonist. Autograph letter signed, one page, measuring approximately 5\" x 8\", Greenwich, Connecticut, 21 January 1942. To Bob Davis, replying: \"I have been waiting years for some person of education and discernment to write something like the above concerning the trend of our American humor. I might have known it would be you!\" With an original ink cartoon of the \"grizzly old Skipper\" of the Toonerville Trolley sketched at the upper right, pointing to the torn off portion of the newsclipping in question (now rather browned) which is pinned to the upper left corner. Mounted to a larger sheet; heavily browned beneath the newscutting, mailing folds; some light soiling and wear, else very good.
Fontaine Talbot Fox, Jr. (1884-1964); American cartoonist and illustrator best known for writing and illustrating his \"Toonerville Folks\" comic panel, a syndicated feature that ran from 1908-1955 and was one of the most popular comics during the World War I era. Authenticity guaranteed.
