This sale is for the original, one-of-a-kind, hand-drawn comic artwork by Milton Caniff for a Steve Canyonspecialty piece for the Seventh Annual Reunion of the First Cavalrymen Association, from 1954. The whimsical subject matter of this panel is Steve Canyon\'s sidekick, \"Happy Easter,\" a crotchety millionaire adventurer who often joined Steve in his early adventures. Milton Caniff occasionally drew original specialty pieces like this for friends and military veterans of World War II. These original specialty pieces by Caniff are rare and highly sought after. The entire art board measures 11 3/4\" w x 13 1/16\" h and the image area inside the borders is 10 3/4\" x 11 1/2\". The syndicate\'s 1954 copyright sticker is still firmly attached. The medium is pen and ink and shading pencil on three-ply art board. For being 60 years old, the image area is in surprisingly good condition. Sadly, due to a prior owner\'s carelessness, the margins outside the image area are only in fair condition, with stains, corner dings and creasing. Fortunately, these problems can be matted out to leave an image area inside the borders with very good eye appeal, although on close inspection, some creasing is evident. The back has creasing, staining and corner dings. Judge for yourself--the pictures above are high resolution scans of the artwork (due to the size of the art being too big for my scanner the images of the border areas are in two scans so everything isvisible). Milton Caniff, \"the Rembrandt of Comics,\" was one of the most influential comic stripartists of all time, winning every significant cartooning award and creating two of the most popular comic strips ever--Terry and the Pirates and Steve Canyon (source Wikipedia). I am a serious comic art collector who is \"thinning the herd,\" as my collection has grown too large. This piece has been in my collection for at least ten years. offer with confidence, based on my perfect response record.
