BANK OF TAIWAN 1950 FIRST EDITION PATRIOTIC LOTTERY BOND $5 YUAN.They were the first edition, hardly find today, issued by the Bank of Taiwan to replace Republic 1949 Patriotic Bonds for governmental financial revenue income. 3rd was issued on June, 5th on July and 6th on August 1950. Back then, $5 New Taiwan dollars wasequivalent to $200,000 Old Taiwan Dollars nearly 1 year ago. $5-Yuan was very expensive and only rich people could afford to purchase. Majority of people earnedmonthly incomeof$50 or less in average and lived with food stamps supported by the government and free corns supplied by USA for more than 10 years.

The New Taiwan dollar was first issued by the Bank of Taiwan on June 15, 1949, to replace the Old Taiwan dollar at a 40,000-to-1 ratio. The first goal of the New Taiwan dollar was to end the hyperinflation that had plagued Taiwan and Mainland China due to the Chinese civil war fought in mainland China. A few months later, the ROC government under the Kuomintang (KMT) was defeated by the Chinese communists and retreated to Taiwan.
